Create Your Workstations
When selling items on sites like Ebay or Etsy, you have a lot of work to do. You'll have to photograph each item, list them and then ship them. This means that you'll need to set up three stations to make things run as seamlessly as possible. You need a workstation for photographing, one for listing and all of the computer work and one for shipping.
How large of a space you will need depends on the types of products that you're selling. If you're selling small things, a small lightbox on a table is all that you'll need, but if you're selling larger items, you'll need a much larger space and some good lighting.
Your photography workstation should also include an open table so that you can lay things out to get measurements. Measurements are a must to provide your customers accurate descriptions of the items that you're selling.
One final thing to add to this workstation is a scale. You need to know how much each item weighs when you list it, so right after you've taken the pictures and gotten the measurement, slide the item on the scale and right down the weight.
This is where your computer should be set up. You'll only need a small space for this step. A small desk in the corner, or even a laptop at your kitchen table will do. You'll also need a printer, but these can be set up wirelessly, so if you don't have the room in the listing workstation to keep the printer, you can set it up in the shipping workstation and get your labels right there when you're done packing things up.
This will take up a little space in your home as you'll need to be sure to have boxes or shipping bags for each item that you sell. Those boxes can take up a lot of space.
Set up the workstation so that you can get everything packed up to survive transport without damage. You'll need:
- Razor knife
- Tissue paper
- Bubble wrap
- Shipping paper to fill voids in boxes
As an item sells, you can quickly grab it from your inventory space, take it to your shipping station, pack it, weigh it, print a label and send it out with the day's mail.
